One little rabbit. One unforgettable stance.

Some visitors announce themselves. Others simply appear often enough that, eventually, they become part of the family.

Meet Kickstand, one of the regular rabbits who visits our backyard.

He earned his nickname from a habit we began noticing during his visits: when he settles in, one of his back legs sometimes sticks out to the side like a little kickstand. Once we noticed it, we couldn't not notice it—and the name stuck.

Kickstand is also a rabbit who appreciates a good meal. He'll quietly work his way through the grass, stopping occasionally to sit up, look around, and make sure everything is as it should be before getting back to the important business of eating. He’s also apt to stop by the feeding rock for whatever share of the feed he can wrestle away from the other backyard visitors.

Those ordinary moments are some of our favorites to capture.

Wildlife doesn't have to be rare or exotic to be worth watching. Sometimes it's the familiar visitor just outside the window—the one you've seen dozens of times—who gives you a reason to stop what you're doing and look a little closer, and once you've given him a name?

Well... now you start looking for him.
